Old Bank Arcade Hotel

The Old Bank Shopping Arcade built between 1899 and 1901 is situated on the corner of Lambton Quay and Customhouse Quay, Wellington, New Zealand. Thomas Turnbal built the Arcade in renaissance classical style. 

 

The wedge shaped building has Victorian tendencies, using the shape as a transition point for pedestrians, becoming an instinctive destination due to its division between two busy streets...

Furniture Specification

During my design degree I was asked to design and develop a piece of furniture. The mild steel element had to be made by a professional in the industry and needed to be sufficiently specified. A combination of either plywood or macrocarpa, alluminium or mild steel and an apolstery element were the selected materiality that was to be used. This piece was developed around the idea of the furniture being used as a form of display.

 

The furniture I constructed was based on the idea of replicating the geometric form of  packing crates...

 

Last Supper Club Restaurant

The Last Supper Club situated on 21 Blair Street, Wellington, New Zealand was redesigned by Simon Parks. I was given the task to design a new restaurant. I had to develop a new concept and identity for the restaurant. This identity was integral to the design and aesthetic that I would propose. 

 

I began by sourcing drawings of the original building and finding a range of relevant precedents for this project...

Old Bank Apartments

The building I chose for my final project was the Old bank arcade on 233 - 237 Lambton Quay. The building had a basement below, ground floor and two floors above. 

I proposed to leave the existing shops and arcade to maintain the current atmosphere of busy inner city living. I liked the idea of having people shopping and drinking coffee below while living above in their personal space.

 

My concept for this project was based on a minimalist approach contrasting against the detailed architecture of the building...
